Karen Olson earned her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School as a scholarship student of Paul Doktor. She later received a Master of Music degree from Yale University and a Ph.D. in Music Performance from New York University. Ms. Olson has performed in solo, chamber and orchestral concerts throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Middle East and Japan. In New York City, she has performed with several ensembles, including the American Symphony Orchestra, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and Philharmonia Virtuosi, and is currently a member of the New York Pops. Ms. Olson's extensive teaching experience encompasses 15 years of building the technique of pre-college and college students at her private studio and at various schools including Rutgers University, Montclair State University and Rowan College. Ms. Olson's varied performing and academic background in addition to her keen interest in research enabled and inspired her dedication to her recent publications, The Galamian Scale System adapted for Viola, published by ECS (Schirmer) Publishing, and The Solo Violist's Role in Berlioz's Harold in Italy, published by New York University.
