Constance E. Barrett, DMA, is a cellist and teacher active in the New York Metropolitan area. Kani is a frequent guest teacher at Suzuki Institutes, Chamber Music Camps, and in-service workshops specializing in composition, Improvised Chamber Music, and Body Mapping throughout the United States. She has co-facilitated workshops in improvisation with Grammy-nominated cellist David Darling through the organization, Music for People. A frequent contributor to the American String Teacher journal, Kani has written articles and contributed to columns on teaching composition, improvisation, and rhythm to students. The press has called Kani "a musician of rare sensitivity" and cited her performance on the debut album of the pop duo Shimmerplanet as "haunting" and "beautiful." She has performed with a variety of musical groups and genres both here and in Europe, from her performances on national network television with violinist Andy Stein and Camaraterie to her performances at the Berkshire Jazz Festival, Jacob's Pillow, and the BAM Cafe with sitarist Nana Simopoulos.
